Hawaii is a land full of myths and legends. Stories were told about gods and men, ghosts and goblins.
The Hawaiian people, like most tribal cultures, explained everything from the creation of the Earth to the lava flowing from the volcano through the stories of their gods. According to a local legend, one of the greatest women surf-riders in Hawaii was Mamala, who was also a prominent O’ahu chieftain.
Today, folklore in Hawaii is a mixture of Hawaiian mythology such as the ghosts of ancient warriors known as the night marchers (or huaka’i po in Hawaiian) and modern urban legends like The Graveyard Child, The Green Lady and Morgan’s Corner.
