Philosopher REX opens at a moment of crisis as the old orders are fragmenting and the Philosophers dividing into rival camps. Stone and his comrades on one side of the battle, the malignant and craven PHILIP DELACROIX on the other. Complicating matters: just when Stone and his associates need them most, their various abilities are inexplicably on the wane.

In the dark hills of West Virginia a power is growing. Dr. Ishmael Stone and his crew go to investigate the series of killings that have been occurring within and around the mines of the small town. There they find a fading community searching for life and the sad, angry Lloyd Canby. Stone begins to realize he is dealing with more than the normal case.
As the killings continue in the mines of West Virginia, Stone and his crew draw closer to their adversary. While Stone’s team deduct their rival’s background, Stone and Amara go to the heart of the storm - where Stone makes a disturbing realization about the true power of Lloyd Canby.
Stone goes to speak with God about Canby’s position as Philosopher. Canby plots the downfall of the whole town which leads to a final confrontation at the mine yard. Stone offers Canby a path to enlightenment. Canby refuses and chooses to escapes into the abyss.
Stone and his crew go to investigate the haunting of an insane asylum that has been turned into a new condo building. Young Sarah Goode thought she wanted property but didn’t realize the deal she was getting. Sarah realizes the shift in power that is occurring in Stone’s world.
